Bio

Barbara DeMarco-Barrett is editor and contributor to Palm Springs Noir (Akashic). Her fiction and poetry have been published in Coolest American Stories, Dark City Crime & Magazine, Crossing Borders, Shotgun Honey, The Literary Hatchet, Rock and a Hard Place, and her story, “Rowboat,” in Kelp Journal (Dec 2023) was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her first book, Pen on Fire: A Busy Woman’s Guide to Igniting the Writer Within, was a Los Angeles Times best-seller. Barbara teaches Advanced Creative Writing at Saddleback College’s Emeritus Institute, and is an instructor at Gotham Writers Workshop (online). She has taught at Chapman University’s Dodge Film School and was recognized with a Distinguished Instructor Award at UC-Irvine Extension. She also holds two private workshops. She has co-hosted the podcast Writers on Writing since 1998.
